Bringing up triplets has taught me that sleep isn’t just a routine – it’s survival. When you’re juggling three tiny humans with different needs, moods, and rhythms, the smallest disruption can snowball into chaos. Establishing a solid sleep schedule has become the backbone of our days (and nights), helping everyone stay calmer, happier, and more settled. In this piece, I’m sharing what I’ve learned about managing sleep with multiples, why consistency matters so much, and how the right routine can transform life with three little ones.
“Building a sleep routine for triplets is hard work, but it’s the calm that carries you through the chaos. Three babies sleeping isn’t just rest – it’s the space where you breathe, reset, and remember you’re stronger than you think.”
I began sleep training the triplets as soon as we came home from NICU, when they were 10 weeks old. After everything they’d been through, I wanted to give them consistency and comfort, and I knew that three babies all following different sleep patterns just wouldn’t be manageable. Starting early meant we could gently guide them into a routine that worked for all of us, helping our days feel a little more predictable and our nights a little more peaceful.

In those early days, the triplets all shared a cot because they were so tiny. Each time, I’d swaddle them while they were still awake, lay them down, give each a kiss, and gently hush them as I left the room. When they began to cry, I didn’t go back straight away – I knew they were safe and just learning to settle on their own. After a few minutes, I’d return to softly sing, stroke their heads, and kiss them again until they calmed. It was a slow, patient process, but bit by bit they learned that sleep was a place of comfort, and I found a rhythm that gave us all a little more peace.
Surviving, Thriving, and Sleeping Through the Night
Sleep training triplets is no walk in the park, but it’s completely doable – and life-changing. The essentials? Consistency is everything! Resist the urge to pick them up, rock them, or sneak in extra milk, and don’t worry about normal household noise – most triplets spend the first few days/weeks of their lives in NICU, and so they’re already used to a little background buzz. Cot mobile? Check. White noise machine? Check (I swear by the Baby Einstein Sea Dreams projector https://amzn.to/47ThjL2 and the Esynic White Noise machine https://amzn.to/4nORHEY. Stick to the routine, trust that they’re fed, warm, and safe, and let them settle themselves. Yes, the crying tugs at your heart, but those 7 pm–7 am nights? Pure gold. You survive the chaos, reclaim your evenings, and get to enjoy the sweet victory of actually sleeping through the night.
